7 jobs experts say will be most affected by AI in the next 20 years

From trucking to music, automation is reshaping the future of work

As artificial intelligence continues to evolve, concerns about its impact on jobs are growing — and for good reason. According to a new Pew Research Center survey of over 1,000 AI experts, some sectors are far more vulnerable than others.

While experts are generally optimistic about AI’s potential, they acknowledge significant disruptions ahead for specific industries.

Pew said “experts are far more positive and enthusiastic about AI than the public” — the research center found low public optimism regarding AI — but that doesn’t mean there won’t be changes to the market.

7. Musicians: Thirty-five percent of experts said AI will lead to fewer jobs for musicians in the next 20 years.

5. Software engineers: Fifty percent of experts said AI will lead to fewer jobs for software engineers in the next 20 years.
3. TIE — Journalists: Sixty percent of experts said AI will lead to fewer jobs for journalists in the next 20 years.
3. TIE — Factory workers: Sixty percent of experts said AI will lead to fewer jobs for factory workers in the next 20 years.
2. Truck drivers: Sixty-two percent of experts said AI will lead to fewer jobs for truck drivers in the next 20 years.
1. Cashiers: Seventy-three percent of experts said AI will lead to fewer jobs for cashiers in the next 20 years.

While some roles may evolve or shift rather than disappear entirely, the pace of change means many workers will need to adapt.
