AMCA Presents a Lecture: Christian Dior, the Inspiration of Nature

The Monegasque Association for the Knowledge of the Arts (AMCA) will present its second conference on November 10th at the Théâtre des Variétés, with the theme: “Christian Dior, the Inspiration of Nature.”
The gardens of Granville were a formative place for Christian Dior, where a sensitivity to nature took root, a sensitivity that still permeates the world of the House of Dior today.
Christian Dior, the Inspiration of Nature
Born in Granville, the “Monaco of the North” in the Manche region, Christian Dior flourished as a child on the family estate. Built in the Anglo-Norman style, it is surrounded by a garden that would forever mark him, and whose design he helped to create alongside his mother, Madeleine. This close connection with nature, plants, and flowers would influence him once he became a couturier, creating in 1947 the “flower-woman” silhouette, inseparable from the New Look. Both a refuge and a source of inspiration, Christian Dior’s gardens are inseparable from his life and work. The floral and plant repertoire became one of the defining characteristics of the House of Dior.
