Join leading scientists, policy makers, and ocean advocates for an interactive lunch session on 11 June (13:15–14:45) at Mama Shelter, Nice, as part of the #UNOC3 side events.
‘Beyond tipping points: safeguarding biodiversity in a changing ocean’
With marine biodiversity under threat from warming seas, acidification, pollution, and overfishing, this session explores the complexity behind so-called environmental tipping points. Are they useful for action, or do they oversimplify a highly dynamic system?
Expect:
- A buffet lunch and engaging quiz
- Insights from international experts
- A candid panel discussion on the limits of tipping points and the importance of context, scale, and multiple stressors
- Perspectives from science, policy, and Indigenous knowledge systems
Speakers include experts from the IUCN, University of Tasmania, and the Planetary Boundaries group, with moderation by Sam Dupont (University of Gothenburg/IAEA OA-ICC).
