The 8th Monaco Ocean Protection Challenge (MOPC) will culminate in its Grand Finale on May 14th at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco. Organized by the International University of Monaco, Oceanographic Institute, Monaco Impact, and the Prince Albert II Foundation, this global competition supports students and young entrepreneurs developing solutions for ocean preservation.
This year’s edition saw record participation—138 teams from 129 universities and 66 nationalities—highlighting its growing international reach. Finalists were selected in two categories:
Business Concepts:
• Cool Equity (India)
• Invent.io (South Korea)
• Izalgue (France)
Start-ups:
• Aruna Revolution Health Inc. (Canada)
• MolluSCAN-eye (France)
• Rongbient Biotech (Singapore)
This year’s MOPC takes place in a strategic context, ahead of the UN Ocean Conference (UNOC) and the Blue Economy and Finance Forum (BEFF)—both spotlighting innovation and the transition to a regenerative blue economy.
Among the highlights:
• The winning team will earn the opportunity to participate in BEFF.
• A special award will go to an African start-up, recognizing the continent’s vital role in shaping the ocean’s future.
• Past winners Ocean Twist Biotechnology (formerly Ittinsect) and Innov&Sea will return to share their success stories, with Ocean Twist CEO Alessandro Romano delivering a keynote and joining the jury.
By nurturing ocean-minded entrepreneurs, the MOPC is a powerful engine for turning bold ideas into action for ocean health.
