From Cars to Cyclists: Zurich Opens Reclaimed Highway Tunnel for Bikes
It’s a historic day in #Zurich! 🚲 says Renat Heuberger, who shared the video.
Today marks the official opening of a bicycle tunnel — with a twist. Originally built 40 years ago for a highway that was never completed, the tunnel has finally found its purpose: moving people, not pollution.
Thousands of bikes will now flow through this “ghost tunnel,” reclaimed from car-centric planning for a climate-friendly future. Massive kudos to Pro Velo CH and all who fought to make this vision a reality.
This is one of those happy posts – thinking out of the box with some perseverance.
