Team Malizia, led by skipper Boris Herrmann, has introduced the Malizia Explorer — a new sailing vessel dedicated to scientific research and climate outreach. This initiative expands their mission of ocean conservation and climate action.

Team Malizia are building upon their ongoing mission, “A Race We Must Win – Climate Action Now!”, the team aims to enhance their contributions to ocean conservation and climate science.
Key Highlights
- Scientific Collaboration: Malizia Explorer will undertake dedicated research expeditions, collaborating with esteemed institutions such as the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), GEOMAR, Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, and UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission.
- Global Outreach: The vessel will serve as a platform for science communication and outreach, aiming to engage the public and raise awareness about ocean health and climate change.
- Strategic Partnerships: Key partners supporting this initiative include Reederei F. Laeisz, among others, reflecting a strong commitment from both the scientific community and the maritime industry.
The Malizia Explorer was officially announced by Boris Herrmann at the German Ocean Conference on May 6, 2025, and launched in April from Lorient, France. This new endeavor complements Team Malizia’s existing efforts with the Malizia – Seaexplorer, which continues to participate in races while collecting valuable oceanographic data.
