The Cannes Film Festival is largely an industry-only event, but members of the public can attend in limited ways. Here’s how:
1. Attend as a member of the public — Cinéma de la Plage (Beach Screenings)
- Every night, free open-air screenings take place on the beach (Cinéma de la Plage).
- No accreditation is needed.
- Films often include classics, restorations, or out-of-competition premieres.
- Arrive early — seating is first-come, first-served.
2. Apply for Cannes Cinéphiles accreditation
- The Cannes Cinéphiles program gives film students, enthusiasts, and local residents access to special screenings.
- This includes screenings from Un Certain Regard, Cannes Classics, Directors’ Fortnight, and Critics’ Week.
- You must apply in advance (usually by March) through the Cannes website.
3. Be a student or under 28 (Three Days in Cannes)
- The “3 Days in Cannes” pass is for film lovers aged 18–28.
- Accepted applicants can see films from the Official Selection, attend Q&As, and network with other young cinephiles.
- Applications open early each year via the official Cannes Festival site.
4. Watch from home
- While most films aren’t immediately available to the public, some may later be released in theaters, streaming platforms, or international film festivals.
- Red carpet and press events are often streamed live on the Festival de Cannes YouTube channel.
