St Patrick’s Day 2026: Monaco-Ireland Arts Society live performance in Monaco

Celebrate St Patrick’s Day 2026 March 17th in Monaco. Experience a unique blend of music and literature at the Princess Grace Irish Library

On Thursday, 19th March at 7pm, the Princess Grace Irish Library hosts its annual St Patrick’s Day event, highlighting the deep connections between Irish literary giants and the world of music. This year, the celebration focuses on the hidden musical talents of James Joyce, the renowned author of Ulysses, who was both an accomplished singer and guitarist.

Dramatic readings bring literary history to life

Under the artistic direction of Virginia Disney Connell, actors from the Monaco Ireland Arts Society will perform ‘It isn’t this time of year at all!” Performances will dramatize journal entries and letters exchanged between authors: Oliver St. .John Gogarty, James Joyce, and William Butler Yeats, with the kind permission of Dermot Bolger for his adaptation of Ulysses.

Performances will feature actors Miranda Dawe, Nick O’Conor, Andrew Riley, and John Luigi Megginson.

These readings offer a rare glimpse into the personal lives and intellectual exchanges of James Joyce, W.B. Yeats, and Oliver Joseph St. John Gogarty. By weaving these correspondences together, the performance evokes the atmosphere of the era and provides context for their celebrated literary contributions.

Musical rhythms

The evening features a short performance on the guitar by Philippe Loli who will liven up the beginning and end of the event. Not many are aware that the renowned author, James Joyce, played the guitar and often wove musical rhythms into his written work.

Attendees can expect an evening that balances historical insight with live performance, honoring the legacy of these contemporaries through their own words and music.

Cocktails will be served at the end of the evening by the Princess Grace Irish Library.

The evening is hosted by The Princess Grace Irish Library, under the Fondation Princesse Grace.
